How does
habitat work?

Through volunteer labor and tax-deductible donations of money and materials, Habitat builds simple, decent houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families. Habiat houses are sold to partner families at no profit, financed with 20 - 25 year, no-interest loans. The homeowners' monthly mortgage payments are then used to build more houses.

Habitat is not a give-a-way program. In addition to a down payment and monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest a minimum of 300 hours of their own labor- "sweat equity" - into their Habitat house and the houses of others.

Who We Are

The mission of Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity, an ecumenical Christian housing ministry, is to eliminate substandard housing and to build safe, decent and affordable housing for low to moderate income families.

Habitat of Rutherford County was founded by a group of concerned citizens and has since built 59 homes for families in the county.
