Our History
Founded in 1987, Habitat for Humanity of Rutherford County is a Christian-based nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope. As of June 2026, we have built 96 homes and started construction on our 97th home.
ReStore 686 opened in 2004, Habitat rented the old Cabin Furniture Building but quickly outgrew its facility and opened at our current location at 686 W Main Street in 2005. In 2019, we opened our ReStore Clothing Center.
By engaging families as partners, Habitat seeks to build not only homes, but also strength, self-reliance, and stability. Through affordable homeownership, volunteer support, and community partnerships, we help families create brighter futures while strengthening our communities. Together, we are working toward our vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.
