pathways to housing
Building Skills. Building Confidence. Building Opportunity.
A partnership between Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity, Gateway Wellness and Isothermal Community College is helping local participants take meaningful steps toward housing stability, employment opportunities and a brighter future through the Pathways to Housing program.
Pathways to Housing combines education, hands-on construction experience, industry-recognized credentials and financial support to help participants develop practical skills that can open doors to future opportunities.
What Participants Gain:
Construction Skills
Participants gain practical, hands-on experience with basic construction skills, including using tools, measuring, following instructions and building projects from start to finish.
Industry-Recognized Credentials
Participants complete the requirements for the NCCER Core certification card, demonstrating foundational knowledge and skills for careers in the construction industry.
Students also earn the U.S. Department of Labor OSHA Construction card, demonstrating completion of OSHA construction safety training.
Financial Support
Each participant receives a $1,000 stipend, distributed in four $250 payments throughout the program. The stipend provides financial support while encouraging participants to stay engaged and complete the program.
Confidence & Opportunity
Learning new skills is only part of the experience. Participants have the opportunity to apply what they learn, build confidence in their abilities and gain experience that can support future employment and personal growth.
Learning by Doing
Hands-on learning is at the heart of Pathways to Housing.
Participants put their newly learned skills into practice by completing projects such as casserole carriers and a bench. These projects provide an opportunity to work with tools, measure materials, follow instructions and experience the satisfaction of building something with their own hands.
The experience helps turn classroom knowledge into practical skills that participants can carry with them beyond the program.
